Type: MacGregor s.n. (Mt. Yule) (holo HBG).

Stems probably tall, thick. Leaves oblong, carnose, folded, apex obtuse. Inflorescences from the upper internodes, racemose, longer than the leaves, few-flowered. Floral bracts broadly ovate, 1.5 cm long, about as long as the pedicel with ovary. Dorsal sepal lanceolate, 2.5 cm by 5 mm, apex acute. Lateral sepals oblong, 3.3 cm by 7 mm, apex acute; mentum short, obtuse. Petals in basal 2/3 linear, in upper 1/3 subrhombic, 2.8 cm by 7-8 mm, apex acute. Lip 3-lobed, subrhombic, with 3 raised lines, low at the base, somewhat higher near the middle of the lip, where they end abruptly. Column very short.
(after Kraenzlin, 1910).

Colours: Flower yellow?

Habitat: Not known.

Flowering time in the wild: Not recorded.

Distribution: New Guinea (endemic).

Distribution in New Guinea: Papua New Guinea (Central Province: Mt. Yule).

Notes: Dendrobium montisyulei, as far as the sketchy description allows us to infer, does not seem to differ from the species that is presently called Dendrobium terrestre. If they prove to be the same then Kraenzlin's epithet will have priority.
