Diplocaulobium platyclinoides (J.J.Sm.) P.F.Hunt & Summerh., Taxon 10 (1961) 109.

Basionym: Dendrobium platyclinoides.

Rhizome patent, branching. Pseudobulbs to 0.8 cm apart, 1-leaved, terete, 1.25-4 by 0.3-0.35 cm. Leaves almost linear, 4-7 by '0.8'(0.3?)-0.58 cm, coriaceous, apex equally or unequally acutely bidentate. Inflorescences 1-flowered, spathe 1-1.4 cm long; peduncle 1-1.4 cm long. Pedicel and ovary 1.8-1.9 cm long, 6-grooved. Flower c. 4 cm across. Dorsal sepal linear-caudate, widened at the base, 2.5 cm by 5 mm. Lateral sepals obliquely linear-caudate, widened at the base, 2.5 cm by 6 mm. Petals linear-caudate, slightly widened at the base, 2 cm by 1.3 mm. Lip 3-lobed, 0.75 by 0.43 cm, with 2 keels; lateral lobes falcate-triangular, obtuse; midlobe recurved, suborbicular, 0.4 by 0.48 cm, abruptly shortly apiculate-acuminate. Column 0.27 cm long, stelidia triangular, acute, upper margin denticulate, filament minute; column-foot 0.55 cm long. Anther 1 mm wide. Fruit oblong-ovoid, 6-grooved, (immature) 1.3 cm.

Habitat: Not recorded. Altitude 500 m.

Flowering time in the wild: June.

Distribution: New Guinea (endemic).

Distribution in New Guinea: Papua (Legarei River).

Notes: Diplocaulobium platyclinoides has a rather characteristic habit and a large, almost orbicular midlobe to the lip.

Cultivation: Warm growing epiphyte.
