Type: van Royen & Sleumer 7032 (holo L), from Indonesia, Papua, Aifat River valley

Terrestrial. Pseudobulbs c. 3.6 cm long, 0.12-0.20 cm diam. when dried, fusiform, ascending, c. 8-leaved. Leaves petiolate; blade 1.8-4.2 by 0.5-0.9 cm, oblong-lanceolate, thick; petiole 0.2-0.4 cm long, channelled, widening towards the sheathing base. Inflorescence c. 11.3 cm long, erect and slender; rachis c. 4.2 cm long, with c. 20-25 flowers. Floral bracts to 0.5 cm long, widest at the base, narrowly oblong-triangular, acuminate. Flowers medium-sized, not resupinate. Median sepal 0.35 by 0.18-0.19 cm, oblong-ovate, slightly plicate, with rounded apex, 3-nerved. Petals 0.28-0.29 by 0.16-0.18 cm, rhomboid, slightly falcate-curved, plicate, acute at apex, 1-nerved. Lateral sepals 0.3 by 0.19-0.2 cm, ovate, rounded at apex, 3-nerved. Lip 0.28 by 0.25-0.27 cm, blade resembling a broad arrow in outline; lateral lobes long-auriculate; auricles 0.08-0.1 cm long, 0.06-0.08 cm wide at base, semiovate, shortly apiculate to rounded at apex; central part of lip flat; basal part of lip very broad, up to 0.12 cm wide; mid-lobe broad and semiorbicular, slightly and irregularly plicate, with a small tooth at the apex, 0.03 cm long and wide at base, acute at apex. Column 0.17 cm long, with a falcate, broad process; arms [‘staminodes’] narrow and falcate-curved. Pedicel and ovary to 0.4-0.5 cm long, slender. (After Margonska & Szlachetko, 2000)

Colours: Leaves dark-green. Flowers creamy white, column dark green.

Habitat: Terrestrial in hill forest dominated by Castanopsis; 600 m.

Flowering time in the wild: October.

Distribution: Malesia (New Guinea, endemic).

Cultivation: Warm growing terrestrial, keep in shaded position.

Notes: We consider this to be a species of Malaxis, but to the best of our knowledge there is no name available under this genus.
