Epiphyte, small, 4-9 cm high. Rhizome very short. Roots filiform, elongated, flexuose, glabrous. Pseudobulbs close together, ovoid, 0.8-1.2 by 0.4-0.7 cm below the middle; 1-leaved. Leaf erect, elliptic or oblong, subobtuse or minutely apiculate, glabrous, 3-7.5 by 1.6-2.5 cm near the middle; base cuneate-narrowed. Inflorescences 1-flowered, basal, very short, with few small scales, 0.2 cm long. Floral bracts minutely acuminate, much shorter than the ovary. Flower c. 1.2 cm long, erect-patent. Sepals reflexed, oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, glabrous, 0.8 cm long; lateral sepals somewhat broader than the median sepal, oblique. Petals falcate-lanceolate, acuminate, 0.18 cm long; below the middle on either side with slightly sublobed-dilated margins. Lip immobile, semicylindrical, linear-ligulate, apiculate, 0.4 cm long; inside at the base with well-defined margin, underneath sparsely almost warty-rugose. Column slightly curved; stelidia porrect, in front truncate, upper margin indistinctly dentate, with a terminal apicule; without column-foot. Anther ovate-cordate, cucullate, glabrous, with oblong umbo, apiculate. Pedicel and ovary short, glabrous, 0.35 cm long. (After Schlechter, 1913)

Colours: Flower dark carmine-red. Petals whitish with a red spot above the base. Lip with a golden yellow apex. Column white.

Habitat: Epiphyte in riverine lowland forest; 100 m.

Flowering time in the wild: September.

Distribution: Malesia (New Guinea).
