Bulbophyllum mayrii J.J.Sm., Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 66 (1934) 205

Type: Mayr 211 (holo L)

Rhizome elongated, creeping. Pseudobulbs when dried thin, c. 2. 7-3 cm long, ultimately enclosed by fibres from the 4-4.5 cm long sheaths. Leaf lanceolate, when dried coriaceous, on either side sparsely black-finely punctate, 9.5-10 by 2.1 cm; base acute, narrowed into a petiole; apex narrowed, conduplicate, from above subacute; midrib above grooved, keeled below; petiole channelled, 2.1 cm long. Inflorescences from the base of the pseudobulbs, much exceeding the leaves; peduncle thin, 31.5-38 cm long; with c. 5 small, tubular, to the top laxly placed peduncle-scales; rachis exceeding 4.5 cm, flexuose, the internodes 0.35-0.4 cm long. Floral bracts alternate, distichous, erect-patent, incurved, narrowed-acuminate, concave, carinate, when dried prominently nerved, minutely puncticulate, 0.9-1.1 cm long; base tubular. Flowers 12 or more, open in succession. Median sepal elliptic-lanceolate, 5(-7)-nerved, 2.5 by almost 0.7 cm; apex strongly narrowed, subacuminate, acute; dorsally laxly minutely punctate. Lateral sepals obliquely lanceolate, keeled, 7-nerved, dorsally sparsely minutely punctate, c. 2.8 by 0.85 cm; apex narrowed-acuminate, acute. Petals very small, obliquely narrowly oblong, 1-nerved, irregularly lacinulate, denticulate, 0.5-0.53 cm long; base 0.08-0.08 cm wide; apex somewhat dilated, truncate or more or less lobulate, 0.16-0.17 cm wide; midrib extended in a long, filiform, 0.06 cm long mucro. Lip oblong-elliptic, 1.75 by 0.68 cm at 3/5th above the base; base slightly subspathulate-contracted and concave, the concavity in 1/4 part above the base delimited by 2 oblique, not merging, fleshy, irregular, towards the apex decurrent keels; from the base to the middle with two low, longitudinal, closely spaced keels each of which is near the base raised into a short, distinctly taller lamella; the keels above the base somewhat divergent, then becoming close together again. Column 0.5 cm long, margins below the middle abruptly rounded-or angular-dilated; column-foot short, broad, 0.2 cm long. Ovary pedicellate, c. 1 cm long. (After Smith, 1934)
