Small, 1-2.5(-5) cm high terrestrial. Tuber subglobose-ovoid, 0.4 by 0.4 cm. Stem 0.4-0.8(-4) cm long, 3-sided, glabrous. Cataphyll tubular, 0.3-0.45 cm long, subcaudate-acuminate, glabrous. Leaves broadly ovate, 0.8-1.5 by 0.6-1.4 cm, apiculate, cordate at the base, mid-rib sunken above, prominent below mainly in the basal part, basal nerves 2 on either side of mid-rib, inner one almost reaching the apex of leaf-blade, outer one up to 3/4 of total length of leaf-blade, cross-veins 4-6 on either side of mid-rib, connate with each other and with inner basal nerve; scattered pellucid lenticellate. Pedicel 0.1-0.15 cm long, glabrous. Floral bract linear, boat-shaped and widened at the base, 0.8-1 cm long, acute, glabrous. Ovary obliquely curved, cylindrical, 0.35-0.5 cm long, 6-grooved, glabrous. Median sepal curved, spathulate, from a narrowly obcuneate, boat-shaped, 1.5 cm long claw gradually widening into a hood-shaped, 0.8-1 by 0.7-1 cm large apical part, shortly apiculate, 3-nerved at the base, 9-nerved on hood, mid-rib crested along entire length, glabrous. Lateral sepals linear, boat-shaped widened at the base, sigmoid, free, 1.4-1.8 cm long, acute, glabrous. Petals similar, 1.1-1.3 cm long. Lip from a basal, 0.8-1 cm long, tubular part abruptly curving downward and spreading into a broadly reniform-suborbicular, 0.9-1.1 by 1.2-1.5 cm large blade, margin coarsely fimbriate-laciniate, in the throat with a heart-shaped, 0.5-0.6 by 0.3-0.4 cm large boss which at the base is 2-grooved, inside of blade with a wide belt of white hairs between throat and apical margin, 3-nerved at the base, 19-nerved near margin; spurs broadly conoid 0.2-0.25 cm long, obtuse. Colours: Stem wine red or red. Leaves dark olive green above with white nerves, underside dark purplish green and only white on mid-rib. Floral bract wine red. Ovary blackish red. Median sepal blackish red at the base, gradually changing to clear wine red in higher parts but hood white. Lateral sepals and petals wine red. Lip on outside at the base blackish red, gradually becoming clearer wine red towards central part, on outside white with broad wine red nerves; spurs blackish red with white tip.

Habitat: Terrestrial in upper montane forest. Altitude 2800 m.

Flowering time in the wild: July.

Distribution: Malesia (New Guinea, endemic).
