Terrestrial or rarely epiphytic herb with clustered growth. Leaves 4-6, linear-oblong, obtuse and tridenticulate at apex, up to 40 by 3-5.5 cm, sparsely ciliate on basal margins, green, glabrous. Inflorescence 2-5-flowered; peduncle 30-50 cm long, purple to greenish brown, shortly pubescent. Floral bracts ovate, acute, to 4.5 cm long, glabrous, pale yellow-green with purple stripes. Flowers large, 12-16 cm across. Pedicel and ovary 5-7 cm long, glabrous or sparsely pubescent. Median sepal ovate, acuminate. 4.9-5.5 cm long, 2.5-2.9 cm wide. Synsepal similar, 5.3-5.5 cm long, 2.8-2.9 cm wide. Petals deflexed, linear-tapering, 9-10 cm long, 1 cm wide, papillose in apical part, sparsely ciliate on basal margins, usually helically twisted (usually with around 5 'twists'). Lip subporrect, 5-5.5 cm long, 1.8-1.9 cm wide, with narrow, acute, incurved side-lobes. Staminode convex, oblong to subquadrate, obtuse to retuse, 1.7 cm long, 1.2 cm wide, with hirsute sides. Colours: Leaves green. Sepals and petals straw yellow with maroon veins, petals with maroon warts on basal margins, lip yellow, veined and more or less flushed (brownish) purple.

Habitat: Terrestrial on limestone cliffs, usually close to the sea, also epiphytic; 0 to 200 m.

Flowering time in the wild: February, June.
