Epiphytic, short-stemmed, unbranched, 30-40 cm high; roots filiform, elongated, flexuose, finely villose, later becoming almost glabrous. Leaves erect-patent, ligulate, apex unequally and obtusely bilobed, 15-22 by c. 2.5 cm wide, somewhat narrowed towards the base, sheathing at the base. Inflorescence unbranched, slender, pedunculate, more than half as long or as long as the leaves; rachis elongated, rather densely many-flowered, to 10 cm long, c. 1.5 cm diam. across the flowers. Floral bracts ovate-lanceolate, acute, shorter than the ovary; rachis minutely tomentose. Flowers subpatent, not resupinate. Median sepal narrowly oblong-ligulate, acute or apiculate, 0.5 cm long, almost 0.2 cm wide. Lateral sepals falcate, apiculate, 0.4 cm long. Petals linear-ligulate, obliquely obtuse, as long as the median sepal. Lip 3-lobed; lateral lobes erect almost square, obliquely truncate; mid-lobe very small, ovate, acute, deflexed; spur relatively large, broadly oblong, broadly obtuse, as long as the ovary, inside just below the column with a lanceolate, deeply bifid appendage with subulate, acuminate segments. Column without foot, short, rather thick; rostellum short, notched. Anther rounded, in front shortly acuminate; pollinia 2; stipe very slender, narrowly linear, in apical half somewhat widened, tip narrowed; viscidium very small, suborbicular. Ovary cylindrical, glabrous, 0.35 cm long. (After Schlechter, 1905)

Colours: Flower white (type of Pomatocalpa leucanthum), or white with pinkish markings.

Habitat: Epiphyte in hill forest; 250 to 740 m.

Flowering time in the wild: January, December.

Distribution: Malesia (Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Moluccas, New Guinea, Philippines), Thailand.
