Sympodial terrestrial plants.Stem elongated. Leaves few, sheathing at the base, glabrous, dorso-ventrally flattened, not articulate, convolute, brown, herbaceous. Inflorescence terminal, a raceme. Flowers small, resupinate, white with brownish sepals. Sepals free, lateral sepals patent. Petals free, about as long as the dorsal sepal, usually cohering at the apices. Lip spurred, not mobile, inside at base with 2 warts. Column-foot absent. Pollinia 2, sectile, caudicles present, stipe absent, viscidium present. Stigma 1.
Distribution
New Guinea, Solomon Islands. About 4 species, all found in New Guinea.
Habitat
Terrestrial in hill and montane forest.
Notes
A poorly known genus in the Goodyera alliance that may be confused with Erythrodes and Kuhlhasseltia. From the first it differs in the presence of two warts in the spur, which is not bilobed at the apex, from the second by the much larger spur and the conspicuous lower rim of the stigma. The leaves are often attractively mottled in shades of dark and light brown.
