Epiphytic, rather rigid, up to 40 cm high, branched above the base, erect. Stems rigid, branched in upper half, densely leafy, stems and branches entirely covered with very tightly clasping, densely verruculose-rough-prickly sheaths, thinly terete. Leaves erect-patent, lanceolate-linear, 5-7.5 by 0.5-0.7 cm, rather obtusely and strongly unequally bilobulate, coriaceous, base slightly attenuate. Floral head somewhat nodding; spathe elliptic, rostrate, soon falling off. Floral bracts elliptic-cucullate, almost as long as the ovary. Flowers glabrous. Sepals elliptic, 0.5 cm long, obtuse. Lateral sepals at the base saccate-cucullate, connate almost up to the middle. Petals elliptic, obtuse, oblique, only slightly shorter than the sepals. Lip spurred, blade somewhat carnose, broadly elliptic, 0.3 by 0.2 cm, obtuse; spur semi-ellipsoid, broadly obtuse, slightly more than half as long as the blade of the lip. Column short, only slightly extending beyond the basal third of the lip, clinandrium at the back trilobulate. Ovary sessile, 0.45 cm long. (After Schlechter, 1922).

Colours: Flower orange-yellow with bright red blade of the lip.

Habitat: Epiphyte in upper montane forest. Altitude 2070 m.

Flowering time in the wild: June.

Distribution: Malesia (New Guinea, endemic).
