Liparis arrigens J.J.Sm., Nova Guinea 18 (1935) 25, pl. 5, fig. 12

Type: Docters van Leeuwen 10524 (holo BO; iso BO, L)

Rhizome creeping, elongated; sheaths tubular, acuminate, keeled, the upper ones enveloping the pseudobulbs, to 3.5-5.5 cm long. Pseudobulbs 2-2.5 cm apart, very small, ovate, when dried 0.8 cm long, 1-leaved. Leaf articulated, linear, at the apex conduplicate, acute, at the base somewhat narrowed and conduplicate, underneath when dried with c. 5 main nerves, papyraceous, 20-28 by 0.7-0.88 cm; sheath tubular, compressed, with sharp margins, petiole-shaped, 1.3-2.7 cm long. Inflorescence at the apex densely many-flowered, producing flowers for a long time, distichous; peduncle two-winged-ancipitous, 19-24.5 cm long, 0.13 cm wide; rachis compressed, more than 6.5 cm long, across the bracts 0.8 cm wide, internodes 0.1 cm long. Floral bracts distichous, patent, conduplicate-boat-shaped, slightly incurved, strongly keeled, when not flattened lanceolate, acute, 0.55-0.58 cm long. Flowers arising at intervals, 0.55 wide, 0.8 cm long, with the sepals strongly reflexed and convex. Median sepal oblong-elliptic, obtuse, very shortly obtusely apiculate, at the base broad, 3-nerved, mid-rib inside slightly channelled, dorsally rather prominent, 0.5 by 0.23 cm. Lateral sepals obliquely elliptic, 0.5 by 0.28 cm, obtuse, shortly apiculate, at the base broad, 3-nerved, mid-rib inside indistinctly channelled, dorsally especially towards the apex prominent. Petals erect-patent, divergent, making an acute angle, straight, obliquely subspathulate-linear, towards the apex gradually slightly dilated, obtuse, slightly convex, 1-nerved, 0.45 cm long, in the apical part 0.1 cm wide. Lip at the base erect, appressed to the column, at almost 1/3 above the base abruptly deflexed, in the bend on either side with an inwards directed, transverse, strongly convex fold with slightly incurved margins, at the base with a conspicuous, transverse, rounded-quadrangular callus which in the middle is produced into a small obtuse lobule, the callus in front in the middle with a pit, in front of the callus with two much smaller, obtuse, triangular, collateral calli, lip when not flattened narrowed near the middle, upper half contracted into a semi-elliptic, abruptly shortly obtusely acuminate, convex, papillose, obtusely angled lobe, when not flattened 0.45 cm long, at the base 0.28 cm wide, at the apex almost 0.2 cm wide. Column obtusely inclined, straight, including the anther 0.23 cm long, almost 0.2 cm wide, dorsally obtusely rib-like, on either side broadly and spreading rounded-carnose-winged, upper part abruptly contracted, at the base much broader than the ovary, on either side of the stigmatic part with a vertical, obliquely triangular, acute tooth; clinandrium transverse, hollowed out, the back wall slightly notched-truncate. Anther cucullate, angular-orbicular, at the apex truncate, at the base minutely gibbose, 0.08 cm wide. Pollinia 4, united into two obliquely elliptic bodies. Stigma transversely rounded-quadrangular. Ovary 0.15 cm long, including the pedicel 1.1 cm long, with 6 small ribs. (After Smith, 1935)
