Diplocaulobium crenulatum (J.J.Sm.) Kraenzl., in Engl., Pflanzenr. IV. 50. II. B. 21 (1910) 340.

Basionym: Dendrobium crenulatum.

Rhizome rather short, creeping. Pseudobulbs 0.5-1 cm apart, 1-leaved, at a sharp angle to the rhizome, subincurved, ovoid-oblong, 1.3-2.3 by 0.65-0.85 cm, slightly narrowed to the apex, unequally 4(-5)-angled, shiny. Leaves erect, oblong to lanceolate, 2.5-3.3 by 1-1.15 cm, base shortly petiolate, apex obtuse, the very tip obtusely bilobulate, thickly coriaceous, hard, rigid, shiny. Inflorescences apical, arising in succession, 1-flowered, spathe laterally compressed, 0.7-0.9 cm long; peduncle 0.55 cm long. Pedicel 1.5 cm long; ovary 0.2 cm long, at an obtuse angle to the pedicel. Flower resupinated, c. 3.5 cm across, ephemeral. Dorsal sepal horizontal, linear, somewhat widened to the base, 2 cm long, 3 mm wide at the base, in the middle 1 mm wide, concave, apex narrowly obtuse, recurved. Lateral sepals patent, obliquely linear, widened at the base, concave, 2 cm long, 6 mm wide at the base, in the middle 1 mm wide, apex narrowly obtuse, recurved; mentum conical, 0.48 cm long, subretuse. Petals widely patent, linear-filiform, 2 cm long, 1 mm wide at the base, in the middle 0.5 mm wide, concave. Lip 3-lobed in basal third, 1.5 by 0.37 cm, with a 2.5 mm long broadly linear claw at the base, with 2 parallel keels extending from the base to near the apex, the keels straight in basal part, undulate on the midlobe, the midlobe with 3 subundulate additional keels of which the two outer ones are shortly crenate; lateral lobes erect, small, broad, rounded, apex drawn out into a fleshy tooth, inside with sparse warts; midlobe linear-lanceolate, 0.9 by 0.2 cm, at the base a little narrowed and warty-crenulate, convex, apex acute, recurved. Column 0.18 cm long, clinandrium 3-lobulate, the lateral lobules broad, denticulate, apiculate, the median elongated, subulate, curved, stigma almost round; column-foot at an acute angle to the ovary, 0.4 cm long, concave, straight, lightly incurved at the apex. Anther mitre-shaped, in front truncate. Pollinia oblong.

Colours: Leaf green above, paler below. Sepals and petals pale greenish-yellow, lip pale yellowish with blackish purple margins in basal part, inside sparsely spotted blackish purple. Column pale yellowish. Ovary pale greenish. Pollinia yellow.

Habitat: Epiphyte in the lowlands.

Flowering time in the wild: Not recorded.

Distribution: New Guinea (endemic).

Distribution in New Guinea: Papua (Fak-Fak).

Cultivation: Warm growing epiphyte.
